A Father’s Advice to His Sons – A Parable

There once was a man with two sons who were soon to be married to their brides. Having such great love for his sons, the father offered to impart to them words of wisdom to ensure they lived long, happy lives. Standing before his sons, the father told them, “Love your wives as yourselves, and your marriage shall be blessed”. After receiving his father’s advice, the first son became angry that he had not been offered wealth or an inheritance. He spat at his father and went on his way to be married. But the first son dealt harshly with his wife and repeatedly abused her. One night, as he lay sleeping, his wife left him and news soon spread throughout the town of his abandonment. The years went slowly by, and he soon succumbed to death with no family to mourn his passing. The second son, being much wiser, graciously took his father’s advice and worked daily to love his wife as himself. He and his wife grew old together and had many sons and daughters who cared for them in their old age. They both passed away with their families surrounding them to bid them goodbye.

A fool despises his father’s instruction, but he who receives correction is prudent. – Proverbs 15:5
